Aims of the assessment
Assessment of each parent/carer, including:
- A comprehensive account of their life experiences
- The perceptions they have
- Their past and present relationships
- Their abilities and skills
- Their strengths and weaknesses
- Their capacity to make changes
- An understanding of their family
- An understanding of how they grew up
- Their experiences in childhood
- The perceptions they have about themselves
- The perceptions they have about others
- The kind of parents/carers they are
- The kind of parents/carers they are capable of being
- Detailed observation of family interactions
- Attachment between family members
- Capacity of parents/carers to meet their children's needs
- Assessment of parents/carers capacity to sustain change
- The child's emotional and behavioural development
- The child's attachment to their parents/carers
- Family and social relationships
- An opinion as to any harm the child has suffered
- Therapeutic needs
Each report concludes with firm recommendations in the form of answers to the questions contained in the letter of instruction.
